Back in the Geocaching Groove

Great to see you again! Join the discussion.

It’s been awhile, unfortunately, but today we got back into our geocaching groove with four grabs on a local trail. The caches were new, so there was a lot of that excitement of finding a new cache. Besides, we knew that if they were just placed, they were likely not in flooded floodplain forests.

It’s been a tough geocaching season. First, there was the mountain of snow. Then, there were the rains. Then, there was the winter thaw and spring flooding. Now, just as the flood waters recede, the ticks come out. There’s always something.

We didn’t pick up any bugs, but we did meet another geocacher on the trail. Just as you develop your geo-sense to find a cache, so can you spot a fellow geocacher. It’s always fun to meet someone who shares our obsession with this sport. No one else can appreciate the beauty of a fallen log quite like a geocacher. Pieces of bark are our tools of trade, as we try to conceal a cache we found from the dreaded muggle.

It felt good to be on the hunt again. We’ve discovered a part of a local trail that we hadn’t explored before, with plenty of new caches. Cache on!
