Cardinal Collision – Mystery Geocache
I’m not a favorite of mystery geocaches or puzzle geocaches as a rule. I prefer a geocache that’s cut and dry. That said, I have to digress and admit that the Corner series of geocaches leading up to Cardinal Collision was a fun morning spent yes, in yet another park I didn’t know existed.
The park is easily missed if you’re not paying close attention for the sign.
The mystery to the Cardinal Collision geocache is held by the four Corner geocaches. Each one provides a number to complete the coordinates for the former. The finds, while not super hard, did provide a challenge. The walk to each was quite pleasant. We saw lots of waterfowl on the seven-acre pond. While we didn’t see a lot of birds, I would think this would be a great place to look for warblers in the spring.
The walk took us around the pond. The ducks apparently don’t get too many visitors. We flushed several, hanging out close to the shore.
After we collected our numbers and the secret to the mystery, we set off for the Cardinal Collision, a reference to the “collision” of cardinal numbers. Of course, the best laid plans. We ended up in some soon-to-be subdivision, realizing we missed the waypoint. The things you see when you don’t have a camera. Three spotted fawns, two does, and a buck in velvet were grazing back near the creek. They didn’t seem to upset by our presence, but oh, to have photographed the group.
As the weather started to take an ominous feel, we headed down the right trail to the cache, nicely placed by the way. The rain started just as we got into the car. Another great day of geocaching.
