Challenging Geocaching

Great to see you again! Join the discussion.

winter geocachingThis time of year makes for some challenging geocaching.  We’re under a winter storm warning, complete with lightning and thunder.  Toss is some high winds to blow the snow around and add some below zero wind chills for good measure.  You’re left with a day with no geocaching in the forecast.

I know some of you, myself included, might find walking out in the woods as it’s snowing fun.  You can be sure of no muggles.  Just a quick word though about proper dressing for the weather.  Don’t mess around with frostbite.  It hurts!  When the temperatures get as cold as this, I just say enough good things about Under Armour Challenging Geocaching thermal underwear. Great stuff for staying warm.

Then there’s your feet.  Years ago, my husband bought me gaiters.  We were living in central Illinois at the time.  I wondered when I’d ever use them.  Now, here in the land of 10,000 lakes those gaiters have come in so handy on several winter geocaching adventures.  Besides, they do look kind of cool too.

This time of year, ice gets to be a problem.  There were too many times I thought I’d be down while hiking in Wisconsin last week.  I now have my solution, YakTrax.icon They grip the ice well so I’m not flat on my back.  I guess now I have no excuses of not walking the trails.
