Following our adventures in geocaching

End of the Growing Season

Great to see you again! Join the discussion.

The odd weather this year took a hit on our plants. Fall gives way to winter, very quickly, I might add. Not sure I’m ready for winter geocaching just yet. I refuse to run my winter-friendly pocket query.

The forests we walked in while geocaching seemed stressed. The dry weather hurt our grass and container plants too. The bugs were bad this year, because they were able to take advantage of the stressful conditions. Now we live on a lake so, I’m very concerned about pesticide use. The more I learn, the more I’m opting for organic pest control. Seeing the wildlife in our backyard makes me keenly aware of how we treat our yard.

I can’t do much about the weather. Seeing the increase in weeds, the insect damage, even just seeing the insects more, has me convinced that next growing season we need to do something. It’s like this. When you’ve been outdoors all day, you may be reluctant to come in. I know we like to sit outside and enjoy the summer and fall evenings. I like the view best when the lawn and vegetation is healthy. If organic bug patrol kills over 40 insects, I’m all for it. I’d sure love to enjoy my flowers next year.
