Following our adventures in geocaching

Geocaching Day — Part 2

My geo-husband took off a few days from work. And since the boat is out of commission until the fixed prop comes back, we’ve been out geocaching. We returned to the same park we were at the other day for the second leg of the caches. Overall, these were much easier. The first one referred to a chapel in the woods. I hadn’t heard of any structures in the park, so was very curious to find it. Sure enough, there it was–a birdhouse chapel in the woods. Very clever.

From there we continued our hike on the mountain bike/hike trail. We encountered very little hiking traffic, but lots of bikers. Very clever putting caches on this trail; the bikers aren’t going to stop. Why would you when you’re either halfway up the hill already or trying to get the momentum to get up the next? Read: lots of hills in this hike. A challenging walk.

We logged six more geocaches on the trail. Most were easy to find, not as many thorns or much poison ivy. We ended our day satisfied at our success.

When we came home, I was browsing the Geocaching.com website and my list of available caches in our area when I came across one placed that very day. I asked my husband, “Do you want to log a FTF (first to find)?” Hell, yes. We quickly finished dinner. I checked the listing for the coordinates and wouldn’t you know it–it had already been logged just a half hour earlier. Well, we thought let’s go anyway. Is this a sign of addiction or what? We found the general location easily. It was however, in a wetlands. We searched a few logs that were close by, knowing our GPSr was telling us to go farther out. So I did and so did my husband trash a pair of shoes that got sucked into the mire. We did find the cache, that is I did. He refused to go out for it. The camo was clever. Unfortunately, it’s not the best of containers nor hides. Spring rains will trash the container. So ended our geocaching day.
