Geocaching Weekend

Great to see you again! Join the discussion.

Some great geocaching this weekend, taking my old faithful Blackberry out in the field again.

Clever hide on TwitPicWe had the perfect geocaching trip planned for Saturday.  Alas, the hunters booted us out.  Park closed the weekend for a special deer hunt.  Fortunately, another park was close by with some new geocaches.

The first one had us a bit stumped, but a search for the obvious and not so obvious soon yielded its reward.  Rewards were what we needed since the wind had kicked up, chilling us to the bone.  Silly me, I forgot my gloves.  Had to rely on the wee bit of warmth I could get from holding my Blackberry.

Can you guess where the geocache is? on TwitPicThe next geocache was fun.  It was a bit off trail, which is good since tonka_boy lost a travel bug here.  We were leery about dropping any at the park because of his bad experience.

By this time the wind really was biting.  So a couple finds later and we called it a day.

The next day we headed back out to the park with the deer hunting, but instead of that park, went to a nearby city park.

Now this is a geocache! on TwitPicThis park was amazing.  It was huge and wild, such a respite for the in which urban area it was located.  There has to be some great birdwatching and wildlife watching here.  Well, wild it was, because this was the site of one of the 13 Halloween 2008 challenge caches.

The cache lived up to its name, providing us with a scare and a laugh.  How clever is this?  The challenge states that the caches were meant to be night finds.  Can you just imagine coming across this one at night?  My screams would still be ringing through the trees the next day.  LOL!

The park had more treasures in store.  Beautiful walks through prairie restoration areas, pine forests, what appeared to be old growth hemlock trees.   Just lovely!  We did get our exercise in here.  The topography shows the marks of glacial activity, read:  lots of hills.

Lgst cache I've seen! on TwitPicAnother fun cache was this one, definitely one of the largest we’ve encountered while geocaching.  All in all, a great geocaching weekend!

As you see, your link is there. The only thing I’m having some difficulty with is signing up on the website. I’m using the WordPress plugin. Other platforms are available too. Stumbled upon this when commenting on another geocacher’s blog.

I read about geocaching a few years back. I was extremely interested, but didn’t follow up on it. Remembering that was one of my main influences to start hiking. I always wanted to check it out again, but forgot what it was called. I’m glad I know now. It looks incredibly fun!

Oh I LOVE clever caches like the one with the skulls! We’ve done some night caching, and that’s scary enough as it is! Glad you’re getting some caching in before the snow hits.
