Geocaching With Dogs
Our cache, “Puppy Cove“, renewed a favorite topic of mine, geocaching with dogs. How natural it is to be out in the field with a dog. You have an enthusiastic partner, a partner with whom you can easily commiserate with that DNF. A dog provides inspiration to keep searching even if you are getting tired, or cold or hungry or just plain frustrated. Most of all, a dog understands.
A dog will jump merrily with you, barking his approval with your elation at a find even if there are no doggie treats in it. A dog won’t chide you for searching for 20 minutes in the wrong place because you transposed the coordinates. He won’t care if you’re looking in Spokane for a cache that is supposed to be in Minneapolis. He knows. He understands.
A word of advice then to all geocachers: take your dog geocaching. If you don’t have one, borrow one. You must know someone with a dog that would appreciate a good long walk in the woods. Get in touch with your canine side.
