Giving Your Blog Some Love
My Exploring the Great Outdoors blog is one of six that I write and maintain. You guessed it–I love to write because I write about the things that I love, such as geocaching. Going a bit off topic here to get behind the scenes of my blog.
It occurred to me that having this blogging experience, I should share what I’ve learned. That’s how it is in the geocaching world: we’re one big, happy family. So, let’s talk web hosting. If your blog is a self-hosted WordPress blog like mine are, your hosting is extremely important. It can make the difference between your blog being read and not read. The key is research.
Before committing to hosting, you want to take the time to research your options for find the best web host. Key factors you want to look into are reputation for up time, bandwidth (if yours is a high traffic blog), tech support reputation, and money back guarantee. Sure, cost figures into the equation, but it shouldn’t necessarily be your driving factor. Go for reliability. Reliability covers a lot of bases including the provider’s reputation for support. Of course, you’ll get the occasional oddball review, but look for the overall reputation.
I started blogging with a provider that was cheap and likewise so was the management interface and the proprietary blogging platform. If I had taken the time to do a little homework, I might have saved myself a year of hassling with a web host that wasn’t worth my money. Do yourself a favor: take the time to see what you’re getting for your money.

nice piece of work you got there.
