Grabbing 5 Terrain Geocaches

Not that we have a huge number of opportunities here, but living on the lake with a boat in the water gives us the chance to grab those 5 terrain geocaches.

We headed out early Sunday to grab just one of those. The locations is an island that has something of a reputation of being party central, not that I know from personal experience, mind you. Everyone knows though. That is why we headed out on a Sunday morning. The partyers were either still asleep or gone.

The lake is a fabulous place of itself. As a resource, it is precious. That’s a good thing to remember during Lake Awareness Month. A valuable resource needs to be protected.

We were able to anchor not far from shore. My husband always is a bit nervous when it comes to docking or anchoring. the fact that the lake bottom in this area was rock was reason enough to be concerned. We waded to shore.

The island, back in the day, was an amusement park. Ferries brought visitors here for a relaxing day on the lake. It was quite the deal. Today, nothing remains of the park itself, though there are some abandoned buildings. It’s quite eerie to walk these grounds. You almost feel as if you can hear people laughing and the noise of the rides.

The cache was an easy grab, along a trail that skirted the opposite side of the island. From where we were, we could see that the boat traffic was increasing. We decided to head back and not go after the other caches that day.

The rest of the boating day was great. The weather was ideal. The waters weren’t too rough. It was a great day to combine our two joys–boating and geocaching.
