I Had To Geocache
The other day, I met with a friend from back in the day. I found the experience a bit surreal as my family and husband were with me. It wasn’t a bad thing, but reliving a time that my husband didn’t participate in and one which my family was not that involved with either felt out. To have my different lives meeting in one place.
I’ve never atttended any high school reunions. I guess that I’m grounded more in the present. When I told my friend about my current work with novel writing and painting she remarked that I always was the geeky one. When I told her that we liked to geocache, she looked at me as if I had grown a third eye. She listened to my explanation and we quickly moved on to other topics.
Actually, geocaching is a natural choice for me. Since high school, my path has led me to work in conservation and natural resources. I’ve volunteered at state parks as a naturalist. Identifying plants and learning their folklore became favorite hobbies of mine. From there, I became an employee of DNR and eventually Forest Service. I added ornithology to my hobbies. I participated in restoration projects. Indeed, that’s how I met my husband. So, geocaching, of course, what else would I take up as a hobby?
What do your non-geocaching friends think of your geocaching addiction?

I’m lucky that way. I have told several friends about it, and have had at least two, and sometimes more ask to take them with me some time!
Then, there is AtHomeDaddy! He is a great guy I have befriended on-line (we live on opposite sides of the US), but he wrote this…
HE WROTE THIS which got me blushing.

March 10th, 2009 at 7:38 pmMy grandparents introduced me to Geocaching. It didn’t take me long to get hooked – it was the first cache they took me to that got me.
March 11th, 2009 at 2:35 amI’ve got a few friends that were excited about it (but not excited enough to make an effort to go), but that’s about it.
Last weekend I took my best friend’s new 3-year-old stepson to a cache while Mom and Stepdaddy ran some errands – he had a blast. I also took my Mom on the following day and she’s hooked now too. I guess it just runs in the family.
