Invest In the Future of the Environment By Going Organic

The fact of the matter is that there is only one planet.  Belief among some Native Americans, and a good guideline for everyone, is to consider the impact of your actions on the environment through the seventh generation from you.  In any case, to ensure the health of the earth, it is vital to invest in the future of the environment.

My background is in conservation and natural resource preservation.  Considering my impact on the environment is second nature to me.  Take our situation.  Living by a lake makes your home very attractive to spiders, lots of spiders.  It also makes me keener aware of the impact of pesticides.  Organic bug control is one way to protect these waters.  It’s not difficult for me.  We swim in these waters.  Since our contact is more intimate, using products that do not negatively impact the lake makes sense.

The concept of lessening one’s impact on the environment goes further.  Perhaps you have a garden.  We maintain a native prairie garden that is zero maintenance and quite colorful in the summer.  The long root system makes it drought resistant and reduces erosion.  Use of organic gardening products can give similar benefits by increasing soil organic matter.  As we find swimming in our lake, gardening brings one closer to the environment, a good way to create awareness about one’s impact.

Going organic has an added benefit.  It provides the tools for lawn care and pest control by using the tools Nature has already provided.  Such an approach is more likely to give long term results.  By embracing the knowledge the earth gives, we can invest in the future of the environment.
