Island Hopping For Geocaches

A couple of weeks ago, we decided to go after some terrain 5 geocaches that would elude us otherwise. Since the lake was frozen over, we headed to the water to do some island hopping.

The lake is a popular boating lake, with lake homes dotted along the shoreline. In the middle is Coney Island. As the name would imply, the island once had a resort and some island residents. Unfortunately, it did not stand the test of time and fell into ruins–literally. All around the island are the eerie remnants of happier days and vacationers. We found two caches there. It was worth the half mile walk out.

Wow – I can’t imagine geocaching in the snow. It sounds like alot of hard work – ending up being cold and wet at the end of the day. And the containers for the caches must have to be heavy duty – no ziploc bags!!

The snow really does make it a workout. What I don’t like are the frozen logs.
