The Joys Of Winter Geocaching

I have to admit it; I truly enjoy winter geocaching. The parks are quieter. The snow on the trees is oh, so pretty.

We headed out for a park we discovered doing the Halloween geocaches. We knew the park would be busy that day. The temperature actually made it into the 20s. Judging by the full parking lot though, this before-undiscovered park was no local secret.

The park was filled with cross country skiers. I’m not much of a skier, especially when hills are involved. Having dressed for it, we took to the winter hiking trails.

The one thing to remember about winter geocaching is how deceptive the snow can be. Taking a short cut, we ended up plowing through knee deep snow. Always weigh the suggestion of the husband first.

Our search for caches took us to another part of the park, with a gorgeous secluded trail.

This was my kind of winter geocaching. The trail wound through scotch and white pines. The hiking was easy, the cold north winds blocked by the trees. We only found two geocaches that day, but for the beauty of the woods in winter, I’d say we found the best treasure ever.

I love being out in the winter…and you know even if your cache turns out to be a DNF you had the joy of the adventure in getting there.
