No Stealth Required Geocaches
I passed on a couple of geocaches recently. Had it been mentioned in the description, I would not have attempted so-called “stealth required” caches. It’s nothing personal. I can appreciate how cool one would feel having a geocache placed under the collective noses of the general muggle public. I can enjoy the feeling of a great secret that is not generally known. All great reasons to hide a cache. It’s the finders that have the burden.
I’m usually the one on lookout when tonka_boy and me are on such a hunt. It’s no fun pretending I’m waiting for him to take a rest stop while standing around looking obvious. The other day while searching for a geocache in a park that we later learned is MIA, tonka_boy complained how weird it was to be an adult male, rooting around in a park with no kids in tow. He described it as feeling exposed. Eh-hmm, but I digress.
It’s not as much fun if you can’t read the previous logs at your leisure. It’s not fun leaving geocoins or travel bugs when you’re left worrying for their safety. We can all relate to a lost travel bug, lost geocoin, or lost cache story. Every time I search for one of these caches, I hope I’m not the one who gave it away. Besides, I love a walk in the woods, with an opportunity to commune with Nature. I just can’t do that with horns blaring or rap music thumping away. Give me a non-”stealth-required” geocache any day.

I agree. Half the fun of geocaching is the exploration within a journey. Only nature can bring that for me.

SupremeMe and I hate trying to pretend too! It’s much better to search for ones in the wild than the urban areas.
