One Geocache Can Make Your Day
Before the snow and cold hit yesterday, we wanted to get grab a few geocaches. The day promised to be gorgeous. Sunny. Comfortable temperature. We had a plan for geocaching, but like all things, subject to change. Didn’t matter though because one geocache can make your day.
The park we chose was a trail that flanked the Mississippi River. It had a great feel about it. Giant cottonwoods towered over us. You had the feeling that people, I’m talking Native Americans, had just left the area, like their words still hung in the air. Oh, well, onto geocaching.
About a half mile down the trail, a stream crossed the path. On the shore was an enormous cottonwood, the biggest I’ve ever seen. It had a gap in it that surely had to be the hiding place. Alas, it was not. I couldn’t resist checking it out.
I couldn’t help but laugh out loud. Yup, those are my legs in that very same tree. It was such a cool feeling to be in the heart of a tree. I don’t know if the tree was still alive. It felt like you could hear its heartbeat, metaphorically speaking.
Admittedly, it wasn’t the best day of geocaching. We missed one geocache. Two others we passed on because of muggles. There was another cache we started for. The description intrigued me. It was a regular, i.e., large, cache in plain site yet disguised to prevent muggles. Okay, I’ll bite.
It was a bit of a hike through the snow to get to the actual cache. An earlier geocacher kindly left a trail in the snow for us to follow. I guess that’s one reason I enjoy winter geocaching.
When we reached the site, I have to admit being fooled. The hider did an excellent job of camouflage. The fact that it was hard to open added to its cover. We managed though, laughing aloud at the cleverness of the hide.
Now in case you can’t read that, it says “Bat Habitat — Do Not Disturb”. Complete with DNR logo and background information.
We didn’t get a lot of geocaches today. As the journey and the find did prove, one geocache can make your day.

I love that tree! I would LOVE to be inside like that, how awesome! And as for the hide… that’s really cool. We have had days like that and can relate to that sort of day. Wish we had more time this month to Geocache, we miss it!
