Following our adventures in geocaching

Out of Town Geocaching–Part 1

Great to see you again! Join the discussion.

As many of us geocachers find out quickly, geocaching takes us to new and wonderful places. It adds to the adventure. This past weekend we went to a park that we last visited during our pre-caching days.

Interstate State Park is just that–a joint park between the states of Minnesota and Wisconsin. It’s Wisconsin’s oldest state park. The day we visited, the park was packed, I mean literally tripping over people. When we’re going to be in crowded places, I err on the side of caution. Having my bank accounts compromised more than once, I carry a prepaid debit card these days when traveling. Once bitten, twice shy, as they say.

The park was amazing in how different it was on either side. The Minnesota side was crazy-nuts busy. Fortunately the first cache was an earth cache. No need to worry about muggles. In fact, a muggle gave us the answer to the question to log the cache as she read aloud a placard describing the potholes that dotted the interpretive trail.

The Wisconsin side was another story. The landscape was wilder. Fortunate for us too, it was much less crowded. We didn’t even see anyone on the trails. Granted, this was some very tough hiking. The trails were irregular and uneven. Lots of climbing was involved. While I didn’t see signs saying as much, certainly hikers should be cautioned about the difficulty of some of the trails. It was anything but a walk in the park, no pun intended.

Tomorrow, I’ll let the pictures tell the story of this beautiful and rugged park.
