Quit Bugging Me

Okay, so I have it in for bugs, mosquitoes primarily. We managed to get out for some geocaching over the weekend. The weather was fabulous, the mosquitoes were dreadful. Normally, I enjoy a nice walk in the woods, but recent rains have brought about an explosion of bugs.

I probably should have paid attention to the signs. We moved here from Illinois. The bugs weren’t too awful as long as you weren’t near a pond or other mosquito hatchery. When we came to Minnesota, I remember noticing how many people had screened-in decks and porches. Back in Illinois, we spend many nights outside. Bugs were a non-issue. It didn’t take long for us to realize that it’s all out war here in the land of 10,000 lakes.

Our neighbors, I noticed, had a Mosquito Magnet in their backyard. I decided to do some checking on Mosquito Magnet reviews. There was something to it. Testimonials aside, my neighbors seemed to be enjoying their backyard a lot more than we were. Rather than having an evening cocktail on the deck, we were inside. My planned grilled steak? How about a broiled steak instead? No fair.

So, the bugs are a challenge when you want to be outdoors, to say nothing of the risk of health problems like West Nile virus. As with anything in geocaching, you learn to cope. Besides, fall isn’t that far away.

Good outdoor stuff on your site!! Sierra Club is a great Organization. I wonder if MM could be used at a campground, even if it worked around the campsite only? The M were biting us through the bug spray.
