Spring’s Reward—Woodland Wildflowers
If you are out geocaching this week, you have the perfect opportunity to enjoy the woodland wildflowers springing up this week. Welcome to National Wildflower Week!
Spring is my favorite time for finding woodland wildflowers. This is their time to shine, before the tree canopy fills in and shades the forest floor. Not only am I finding geocaches, but I’m finding a few spring beauties or trout lilies along the way.
This week, we saw wild columbine, cranesbill, and bloodroot. Since we’re out in the woods already, we’ve kept our eyes open for morels too. No luck yet, but I’m hoping with this week’s rain and the warm weather forecasted for this weekend that we will practically hear them popping out of the ground. A nice extra bit of swag to pick up on the hunt.
