Staying Rodent Free

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Victor® Rodent Control. All opinions are 100% mine.

This time of year is always a bit tough. Earlier it was a determined woodpecker trying to bore a hole in my house. Then there was the chickadee, set on using our insulation as nesting material. Now, it’s the rodents.

We haven’t had rodents in our present home, knock on wood. They have taken a periodic liking to my car engine, however. I have lived elsewhere where they were an issue. Me against mouse. I would just rely on the cat, but unfortunately she wasn’t too interested. Surprised is a better description of her reaction. So, we ended up using poison to get rid of the mice.

Year later, I have a different attitude about mice poisons. I worked in a vet clinic. I dreaded the approach of fall because it meant more pets would end up getting poisoned. Sometimes, they ingested the poisons or other times ingested the mouse who ingested the poison. Poisoning is easily treated–if caught early. Trust me, you don’t want to see a dog die of poisoning. It was one of the more horrific things I ever witnessed.

An alternative is ultrasonic repellents. For example, how ultrasonic repellents work is by preventing rodents getting into your home in the first place. I can’t be there all the time to make sure my pet stays away from any poison laid out. I have greater peace of mind knowing she’s safe too.

Traps offer another non-poison solution. If you use traps, make them work efficiently. Place them along walls where rodents are likely to scamper. A prey species like a mouse will not choose to walk in the open. Peanut butter or chocolate make good attractants.

It’s not a pleasant task, but rodents can do serious damage, to say nothing of the health threats from rodent-borne diseases such as rat-bite fever and hantavirus. In the end, you, your home, and your pets come first.
