Winter Geocaching At Its Best

Great to see you again! Join the discussion.

A couple of weeks ago, before the flu hit, we headed out for some welcome winter geocaching. This is geocaching at its best.

Winter is such a wonderful time to be out anyway. Must be the Minnesotan in me. If you can find a quiet woods, all the better. We took to the trails on the Minnesota River where the snowmobiles are minimal, the trails meant for hiking.

It was one of those splendid winter days — sunny, yet with a bit of chill in the air. The snow was still deep. Gaiters and snow boots were a must. Surprisingly, few were out this day. Oh, we did have to lie low while a muggle walking his dog passed us by. Had the dog been a hunting dog rather than a shih tzu, we would have been spotted for sure.

The four finds were easy, but satisfying. Truly, this was winter geocaching at its best.

Neat. I’m trying to remember the last time I saw snow…I’ve certainly never gone caching in it. Looks like a blast.

Yesterday, as we searched through the snow for a geocache, I wondered if I wasn’t just being too impatient, and if I ought to wait until spring. It’s nice to see, I’m not alone. :)
